Astrophysics & Cosmos Observations

High Performance Computing (HPC)-based and Big Data technologies are outstanding instruments for modelling the complex dynamic systems studied in Astrophysics, Astro-particle physics and Cosmology today. Their use is needed for most activities, from the reduction and analysis of data up to interpreting and comparing to theoretical predictions, including simulations and theoretical modeling. The new generation of telescope and space observations instruments, as Square Kilometer Array Observatory (SKAO), Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO), Euclid and WFIRST, satellites, balloon-based experiment LSPE, LiteBIRD, DAMPE, Fermi, HERD, Pulsar Timing Array, Einstein Telescope interferometer, will produce a exponential amount of data with respect to their predecessors and they will need new resources for data processing, analysis and storage.

Spoke 3 goal includes  the development of innovative applications and softwares that can fully exploit the advanced technologies of HPC and big data storage solutions, in order to reach excellency objectives in astronomy, high energy astrophysics, astroparticle physics and cosmology. Moreover, Spoke 3 will ease the creation of a community of researchers and experts in developing new information technology solutions, that could support and enhanced the scientific communities of astronomy, high energy astrophysic and astroparticle physics.
